Call for Directors

The British Players are seeking Directors for TWO productions; the Panto “Rapunzel – A Tangled Panto” by Limelight Scripts and “Music Hall 2023”, which will be our 56th fully staged Music Hall presentation. Our productions are staged at Kensington Town Hall, 3710 Mitchell St., Kensington, MD 20895, and most – though not all – rehearsals are held at the Bannockburn Community Clubhouse, 6314 Bannockburn Dr., Bethesda, MD 20817.

The British Players is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so Directors are not paid. Prospective directors will be interviewed by the Players Board as part of the selection process. All our shows have Open Casting, so no roles should be pre-allocated. The British Players is committed to diversity, is open to non-traditional casting, and will consider actors of all ethnicities. Send questions or requests for further information to: President@BritishPlayers.org

Winter 2022 – Pantomime

“Rapunzel” is a traditional British pantomime with good fairies and an evil witch, a handsome prince to save the maiden in distress, a dame and comedic sidekicks. It will be staged in December 2022 and, dependent on bookings at Kensington Town Hall, may run over into January 2023. Load-in will be on the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 25, 2022 with Opening Night on Friday December 2, 2022. Our shows usually run three weekends but, as noted, we may have the opportunity to stage a 4th weekend in January. Auditions are normally held in late-August, with rehearsals starting in mid-September.

Summer 2023 – Music Hall

“MH 2023” will be staged in June 2023. Dates are not yet set but we typically load-in the first weekend in June, open the following Friday night and run for a total of three weekends. Music Hall is an unscripted revue show, not dissimilar in character to American vaudeville, with the content being put together by the Director and Music Director with support from the production team. Orchestra space limits the size to 3 or 4 (5 max.). Auditions are normally held in late-March, with rehearsals starting in mid-April.
